In recognition of the immeasurable value their service brings to our communities, The Ohio Housing Finance Agency’s (OHFA) Ohio Heroes program offers discounted mortgage rates for Ohio first responders.
Do You Qualify?
First responders who would like to take part in the Ohio Heroes program must meet the following eligibility requirements:
- Must meet credit score requirements for loan type (Conventional, USDA, and VA Loans: 640 or higher FHA Loans: 650 or higher).
- Must meet debt to income ratios for loan type.
- Meet income and purchase price limits, which vary by county or community.
- Must work in one of the following careers in public service:
- US Military (veterans, active duty, national guard, or member of reserve components (includes a surviving spouse)
- Police, firefighter, volunteer firefighter, EMT or paramedic
- Healthcare profession: physician, nurse practitioner, nurses (RN and LPN) and STNAs
- Teachers in pre-K through grade 12, school administrators, and counselors
Ohio Heroes Mortgage Assistance Program
Applicants of the Ohio Heroes program must also complete a free homebuyer education course through the OHFA (unless the borrower is already registered for the OHFA’s MTC Basic program). OHFA’s streamlined education program allows you to complete a course offered by any U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD)-approved counseling agency in the state of Ohio.
